Washington's Paid Family and Medical Leave

How is anyone handling this?  I am thinking we will need to use a combination of benefits (employer side) and deductions (employee side), since there is not a "tax" for this.  We are on GP 2016 R2.

I'd love to get ideas.  Thanks

    Hi Val,

I reviewed the requirements for the premiums, and yes, I do believe it would work well as deductions and benefits.

If I did the math right, here is what I came up with and the codes I would use.  If you use the HR side for Benefits and Deductions, these would fit in the Miscellaneous Type.

Would it be necessary to have two employee deductions for Paid Family and Medical Leave?   Do the premiums have to be reported as separate line items when they are reported to the state?   I haven't seen the reporting webinar yet.

    Hi Laura,

I didn't see reporting requirements either, so if you set them up as separate deductions you have the flexibility to report either separately or combined.

    Hi Sherlene,
This is how we set up the WA State Paid FMLA in GP.  Now it is time to do reporting.  See requirements here. https://www.paidleave.wa.gov/reporting?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery
Do you have any suggestions on how to report this?
    thanks,

I just downloaded what they want in the csv file.  It's just  SSN, Last Name, First Name, Middle Initial, Hours and Wages.

Hello. I'd appreciate feedback on how you are maintaining taxable wage balances when this is set up as a deduction?

Does anyone use third party vendor to file taxes, specifically ADP? How is this working out for WA Paid family leave?

    Thank you, Eileen

    Hi Eileen,
The deduction codes would not track the taxable wages.  You would need to somehow patch that information together in the report, maybe using the FICA taxable wages or total wages and hours from a different report.
