"Our customers pay us for our knowledge. We should know our products inside and out so that when a customer presents us with a business problem we at least know what our options are. Conferences like this one allow us to dig deep into these products without the stress of learning in front of the customer." - Rod O'Connor

Dynamic Communities sat down with Rod for the inside scoop on his sessions in the Consultant Track at the Dynamics GP Tech Conference. He will be presenting a session on Dynamics 365 for Financials Business Edition, a 90-minute, deep-dive on Power BI with fellow MVP Belinda Allen, and participating in a panel discussion on Project Accounting options for Dynamics GP.

Q: Please share a “golden nugget” attendees will take away from your session(s) that isn’t found in the session description(s) online.
A: For the Dynamics 365 session, my goal is to get partners past their instinctual hatred of all things non-GP. Once we all agree that this product is not GP but that’s not necessarily a bad thing, we can get under the hood and see what exactly it offers and what kind of customers we should be pairing it with.

Q: Aside from speaking, what you are most looking forward to about being part of the Dynamics GP Tech Conference?
A: I’ve been attending this conference since they brought it back a few years ago. Having participated in the planning process this year, I am most excited at the depth of the material that is to be presented. For example, for the Power BI session we will be going beyond the creation of a dashboard as has traditionally been presented and getting into things like security configuration and the integration to Office 365. It’s going to be hard for me to pick a room for some of the times.

Q: What’s on your personal conference agenda? Share any sessions you don’t want to miss!
A: I’m really excited about the Flow and PowerApps sessions for consultants. Traditionally these kinds of tools are shown from either a developer or marketing standpoint – I’m excited to look at these products through consultants’ eyes! (Don’t worry developers, there are sessions on these topics specifically for you too.)

Q: Why do you think it’s important for Dynamics partners to attend partner-only conferences?
A: Our customers pay us for our knowledge. We should know our products inside and out so that when a customer presents us with a business problem we at least know what our options are. Even if I can’t code a Flow integration or a PowerApp, I should at least understand what they do and how to apply them in real life. Conferences like this one allow us to dig deep into these products without the stress of learning in front of the customer.

Q: What is your best advice for Dynamics GP partners attending the Dynamics GP Tech Conference?
A: Sign up for any activity that eOne is running, but make sure you can still get to the sessions the next morning.

Q: What are you most looking forward to about visiting Fargo, ND?
A:There are actually a lot of things I always look forward to when I come to Fargo. Aside from the sessions, there’s a whack of great restaurants and pubs as well as plenty of opportunities to schmooze with other partners, ISV’s, and Microsoft employees. I always come away from this conference with a new friend or six.
